Religion

The Division of Continuing Studies offers the Bachelor of General Studies degree with an area of concentration in religion.

Required:

30 hours from the department of religion

No less than 9 hours upper division

Optional:

An allied field of 1-9 credit hours of philosophy may be used as part of the 30 hours in the area of concentration.

Additional information:

Students interested in graduate studies should contact the graduate adviser in the religion department to make sure necessary classes are taken to enter graduate programs.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

No course from a two-year institution which is also offered as an upper division course at UNO can be used in this area of concentration.

Career Information:
An area of concentration in religion studies the nature of religious beliefs and traditions from an academic perspective. Students can select coursework from a variety of different religious traditions, including the impact of religion on literature, media, ethics, and gender roles. It will also provide the necessary knowledge to pursue an advanced degree, if desired. Religion students may find careers in social/human services, counseling, religious or nonprofit organizations, government, retirement facilities, youth programs, corrections, education, journalism, public relations, and within particular religious ministries.
