Bachelor of General Studies Area of Concentration

Philosophy

The Division of Continuing Studies offers the Bachelor of General Studies degree with an area of concentration in philosophy.

Required:

30 hours from the department of philosophy (PHIL)

  • No less than 9 hours upper division

Additional information:

Students interested in graduate studies should contact the graduate advisers in the philosophy department to make sure necessary classes are taken to enter graduate programs.

Career Information:
An area of concentration in philosophy provides a transferable skill that a student can use in many fields. The focus is on rational and critical thinking, problem solving, ethics, logic, and the history of philosophical thoughts, ideas, and cultures. It will also provide the necessary knowledge to pursue an advanced degree, if desired. Philosophy students may find careers in religion, community services, education, research, government and nonprofit organizations, law, journalism, human services, and business.
