Bachelor of General Studies Area of Concentration
Mass Communication
The Division of Continuing Studies offers the Bachelor of General Studies
degree with an area of concentration in Mass Communication.
Required: 30 hours from the areas of Broadcasting (BRCT) and Journalism (JOUR)
- No less than
9 hours upper division from UNO
- JOUR 2100 (Media Writing) must be the advanced writing course

An allied field of 1-9 hours from the following area may be used as part of the 30 hours in the area of concentration:

Students interested in graduate studies should contact the graduate chair in the School of Communication to make sure necessary classes are taken to enter graduate programs.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
No course from a two-year institution which is also offered as an upper division course at UNO can be used in the area of concentration.
Career Information:
An area of concentration in mass communication includes coursework in both broadcasting and journalism. Students will investigate mass media, from its institutions, history, and laws to the ways in which it impacts our culture. Students are also able to create their own creative broadcasting and/or journalism projects. Mass communication is a versatile major and helps develop skills and understanding useful in a variety of settings. This degree will also provide the necessary knowledge to pursue an advanced degree, if desired. Graduates are likely to find careers in television, radio, publishing, writing, news, editing, marketing, advertising, public relations, technical communication, education, and business.
