Creative Writing

The Division of Continuing Studies offers the Bachelor of General Studies degree with an area of concentration in creative writing.

Required:

WRWS 1010	Contemporary Writers	3 hrs
WRWS 2050	Fundamentals of Fiction Writing	3 hrs
WRWS 2060	Fundamentals of Poetry Writing	3 hrs
WRWS	Upper Division elective	3 hrs

Either:
WRWS 2100, 3100, 4100	Fiction Studies	4 hrs each
or
WRWS 2200, 3200, 4200	Poetry Studies	4 hrs each
or
WRWS 2300, 3300, 4300	Non Fiction	4 hrs each

REQUIRED Allied field in English:

Two courses from the following:

ENGL 2310	Introduction to English Literature	3 hrs
ENGL 2320	Introduction to English Literature	3 hrs
ENGL 2450	American Literature	3 hrs
ENGL 2460	American Literature	3 hrs

REQUIRED Secondary field in English:

Twelve hours chosen from English literature classes at the 3000-4000 level.

Career Information:
An area of concentration in creative writing provides study of the creation of poetry, fiction, or non-fiction works. Students read and analyze the work of established writers and write original creative work. It will also provide the necessary knowledge to pursue an advanced degree, if desired. Creative writing students may find careers in publishing, journalism, bibliography, education, advertising, and free-lance or published writing.
