Bachelor of General Studies Area of Concentration

Black Studies

The Division of Continuing Studies offers the Bachelor of General Studies degree with an area of concentration in Black Studies.

Required:

30 hours from the department of black studies

  • No less than 9 hour upper division

Additional information:
Very few upper level black studies classes are offered at night except at Offutt Air Force Base.

Students interested in graduate studies should contact the graduate adviser in the black studies department to make sure necessary classes are taken to enter graduate programs.

Career Information:
An area of concentration in black studies covers the historical, social, economical, political, and cultural heritage of Africans and African-descended people in the Diaspora. Black studies is a versatile major and will develop skills and understanding useful in a variety of settings. It will also provide the necessary knowledge to pursue an advanced degree, if desired. Black studies students may find careers in anthropology, journalism, education, research, public relations, law, civil rights, community and cultural affairs, government administration, politics, human resources, art, sociology, psychology, and international business.
