Career Information:
An area of concentration in biology provides a study of life, individual organisms, their communities, and the systems, cells, and processes that make up living matter. Some biologists conduct research to increase the knowledge about living organisms, while those in applied research use this knowledge to develop medicines, increase crop yields, and improve the environment. Biology students may find careers in research, education, toxicology, quality control, conservation, genetics, biotechnology, microbiology, zoology, botany, pharmaceuticals, technical writing, administration, and legislation. A degree in biology can also lead to careers in healthcare by preparing students for medical school and other professional/advanced degrees or licenses (i.e. pharmacy, nursing, pathology, physical therapy, radiology, public health, etc.).

For more career information, check out U.S. Department of Labor - Biological Scientists, AIBS Careers in Biology, or UNO Career Center .
